Various methods to treat Stomach Ulcer
A stomach ulcer is a small hole in the gastrointestinal tract. It is also known as a gastric ulcer or peptic ulcer. Ulcers formed in the stomach are known as gastric ulcers. Other type of stomach ulcers are duodenal ulcers. These are found in the first 12 inches of small intestine away from the stomach. A peptic which develops in the lower portion of the esophagus is known as esophageal ulcer. An ulcer is not infectious or cancerous in nature. Usually duodenal ulcers are gentle. But stomach ulcers have a tendency to become malignant. Stomach ulcers can be treated in many ways. It all depends upon the severity of the condition of the stomach ulcer in any patient. Even you may also need to have some changes in your lifestyle and diet. The main point is to follow instructions of your doctor completely. Some home remedies- Under the condition of ulcer, pain also occurs in the stomach which can be relieved to some extent by eating bananas. It provides a protective layer of coating similar to alginates and antacids. Juice of raw cabbage mixed with the juice of carrot taken regularly also helps in relieving ulcers. Apart from this cayenne pepper also helps in relieving pain. The inflammation caused due to H Pylori in ulcers can be reduced by taking honey and garlic.
Avoiding smoking and alcohol- People who smoke or consume alcohol also suffer from the problem of stomach ulcers. Such patients are advised to avoid smoking and alcohol altogether.
Antacids and Alginates- These medicines help in neutralizing stomach acid rapidly as compared to other medicines or drugs. The working of alginates is based on formation of a protective outing layer around the wall of stomach. On the other hand, antacids help in relieving pain in stomach instantly, caused due to ulcers.
Proton Pump Inhibitors or PPI- Proton pump is known to produce stomach acid. This protein is blocked with the help of proton pump inhibitors including lansoprazole and omeprazole. Due to reduction in stomach acid, stomach ulcers are treated naturally. Although these PPIs, have some side effects, but these disappear when drugs intake is stopped.
Surgery- Surgery is advised to treat stomach ulcers when all other medicines, drugs or even endoscopy methods are ineffective. Mostly surgery is preferred when stomach wall suffers from serious damage. This damage leads to formation of holes in the stomach wall. The bleeding ulcers are also treated with the help of surgery only. Some medications are also prescribed by the doctor following a stomach surgery.
Eradication Therapy- This therapy involves intake of antibiotics along with PPI or proton pump inhibitors. PPI’s and antibiotics together fight against the stomach infection. The therapy is continued in case H Pylori bacteria remains in the stomach till these are completely eradicated form the stomach.
