Get rid of stretch marks
Stretch marks are also known as Striae in the dermatological world. These are found on the areas of body which experience extreme stretching of the skin. As a result, the skin elasticity is lost in the dermis layer of the skin. Dermis layer is the middle layer of the skin which imparts elasticity and support to the skin. Although these stretch marks don’t indicate any physical ailment but these spoil the beauty of human body. Stretch marks may occur due to pregnancy, regaining normal body shape after losing excess weight or wearing of tight clothes for long time. Laser Treatments – There are two types of laser treatments meant for old and fresh stretch marks. Pulsed dye laser is used for old stretch marks while fractional laser treatment is good for fresh stretch marks. But the former one is not suitable for those who have dark skin.
Cosmetic Surgery – In case, other simple treatments fail to deliver desired results or when recommended by a dermatologist, you can go for surgery to remove stretch marks. It is known as abdominoplasty. Although it takes long time, but is equally effective in treating stretch marks.
Acid peel- The appearance of scars on the skin is reduced by using peels. The most common type of peels used for this purpose is the Alpha Hydroxide Acid. It is a strong acid that unwraps the skin and make it look smooth. It is a specialized skin treatment which can be performed by a dermatologist only.
Some Home Remedies – Various home remedies help a great deal in treating stretch marks to considerable extent. You can apply a mixture of wheat germ oil, Aloe Vera and olive oil in equal quantities on the stretch marks. Keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water. Apart from water, lemon juice also helps in removing stretch marks by enhancing collagen in skin.
You can also remove stretch marks by eating some foods rich in Vitamin C. Some exercises such as swimming also help in treating stretch marks.
Contemporary methods– Some moisturizers and creams help in removing fresh stretch marks. These must be applied on stretch marks regularly. Also Retin-A treats fresh stretch marks effectively. Glycolic acid is equally effective and safe for nursing as well as pregnant women.
In Office Treatments- These include use of medicines or specific dermatological treatments to remove stretch marks. The main aim of giving medicines is to enhance collagen in skin which helps in reducing stretch marks. Sometimes marks are rubbed off the skin by using polished brushes and it is known as Dermabrasion. In this procedure, dead cells are removed giving way to production of new skin without any stretch marks.
